Tony is being needy and moody = Rhodey asks if it’s about Steve
Steve is being spoiled = Bucky knows it’s a gift from Tony

Mighty Avengers #9 (2008)

When Tony was 19 he graduated summa cum laude from MIT with not one but two master’s degrees. His father, the one person Tony wants to impress was cold and unresponsive to the achievement. Howard expected no less and no praise was thrown Tony’s way. Not long after that Howard and Maria died and Tony lost any chance to impress his father.
Point being that even though Tony feigns indifference to what he accomplished, in this scene from IM he is wearing his class ring. Tony is a billionaire, he can have any jewelry he desires but we only ever see him with a watch. This ring costs between $300 and $600, depending on the metal you choose. Pocket change to Tony and yet he wears it to an event where he knows he will be in the public eye, just after his kidnapping when the public and the press will be scrutinizing his every move. Deep down, hidden under all the derision and self loathing, Tony is proud of what he did here. Regardless of what his father said by not saying anything at all, Tony knows it was a huge accomplishment and yes, he is proud of himself for doing it and wearing the ring is his subliminal way of expressing physically what he will never say in words.
(I have panels somewhere where Howard is being a total asshole to Tony when he is on break from MIT, but I really don’t want to dig through all those files right now).

Thank you for pointing this out and taking my Tony feels to an entirely new level.
And that’s the truth.

The Black Widow’s first “costume” was actually a very swanky evening dress and fur.

“What a Man!” photoset, part II. Part I can be found here.
AKA: Tony’s Epic Mancrush on Steve Boarders on Inappropriate
(In fact, the last one there is just them monologuing about how each other are perfect and wonderful:
Steve [internal monologue]: “If it’s not the vicious thugs who call themselves heroes today, reminding me how outdated are my old man’s ways… it’s the amazing inventions that stem from Tony’s mind. Tomorrow’s dreams made real.”
Tony [internal monologue]: ”I feel like a snail or a tortoise, lumbering along in my shell, whenever I’m with Steve. So clumsy and so safe, next to his grace and daring.”
Steve [internal monologue]: “Yes, Tony Stark, a man of today and tomorrow… is the man I’ll never be.”
Tony [internal monologue]: “I have so much, I know I shouldn’t envy Steve and his strengths. And yet I do.”
Somebody call the Sass police.
gotta say, with all the Hawkeye stuff floating around I’m surprised no one’s brought back this edit of Jwaneeta’s Big Bang artwork for Conjugate.
“Break Up and Make Up”
You know how X-Men: First Class has the infamous Beach Scene? AKA THE DIVORCE??
Yeah. Steve and Tony have done that, too. About a hundred times.
(NB1: This is definitely not all the break-up/make-up moments, just the ones I had access to.
NB2: Xavier and Magneto have more than their fair share as well, besides just in the movie. But I’ll leave it to someone else to compile that photoset ;P)
